Psychophilia is the fetish of people being attracted to persons with mental disorders. I was quite disturbed this week to find online a number of articles about the growing fan base of the accused killer in the news at the moment, (I won’t even mention his name to give him even more exposure), but the Montreal chopper-upper shall we say.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “crazy girls are better in bed”. I’ve thought of that saying and concluded that it is likely because ones with mental disorders can have a certain intensity about them, and intensity can lead to heightened sexual encounters. I understand what this is like firsthand. You can have very much more intense experiences when that love/hate element is present. It can kind of be a scary situation, yet the intensity hooks you like a drug in some way and keeps you coming back for more. It can be very hard to tear yourself away from a situation like that even though it’s clear it’s self destructive.
I think ones attracted to ones clearly affected with mental disorders must have self esteem issues. They are seeking ones out at a disadvantage and knowingly bringing drama into their own lives and into the lives of those around them. And possibly violence and serious harm. If one craves drama in their lives, there are other fetishes that could better be brought into their lives that wouldn’t be as dangerous to others. Now granted all people with mental disorders are not criminals or dangerous to others, but they still come with more baggage and drama than ones mentally healthy. Do you really need the grief?
